Halfway between Southern Utah’s “Mighty 5” National Parks and Yellowstone, lies Ogden, Utah.
Day Trips - Mountain Biking
Mountain bikers from all over keep hearing about Ogden. There's a good reason why.
The area typically hosts at least a couple of races during the bike race season, along with the XTERRA Pan-American Championships at Snowbasin, so it’s definitely on the radar for mountain bikers. But with hundreds of miles of trails, where do you start? The two areas that should be on your bucket list are Powder Mountain and Snowbasin.
Snowbasin and Wheeler Creek Trails Are a Must-Visit
Starting Point: Start at the Wheeler Creek Trailhead, located just below Pineview Dam. This area is the gateway to several routes that cater to different skill levels.
Trail Suggestion: Take the Wheeler Creek Trail to the Art Nord Trailhead. For those seeking a challenge, the Sardine Peak Trail is for you. It's a local favorite for a reason (most prefer to tackle it clockwise for the best experience).
Not to Miss: After Sardine Peak, don't skip The Icebox on your return to Wheeler Creek. You'll quickly understand why this section is a part of the XTERRA Pan-Am Championship course.
Powder Mountain and Dirt Mountain Riding
Cross-Country Biking: While downhill biking is on hold, cross-country riding remains at Powder Mountain, with parking available at the Brim trail at the end of Summit Pass Road. Make sure to check out Paper Airplane and Brim trail and take a deep breath. You're at 9,000 feet of elevation.
Be sure to check the official Powder Mountain website for the latest updates on trail closures and availability.
