In the heart of downtown Ogden, you’ll find artistic expression and creativity everywhere you turn. The Nine Rails Creative District…is the heartbeat of art in Ogden, and at the center is The Monarch.
This multi-use space in a historic building appropriately located at 25th Street and Ogden Ave. houses the funky WB’s Eatery, a wine cafe and coffee house, along with The Art Box, an eclectic combination of gift shop and interactive studio. The Monarch top floor is a versatile event space, but every art lover needs to spend some time in The Monarch exploring the dozens of working studios of Ogden artists. Because these are working studios, there are no set hours and the best chance to find the majority of them open is during Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll every month. However, on any given day, you’ll find painters, sculptors, letterpress operators, podcasters, potters, photographers and other artists diligently creating. If the sliding door to their studio is open, it’s generally accepted that you can step inside to look around or chat with the artist. If it’s not, it’s generally best to let them work.
From The Monarch, it’s an easy stroll to take in several outdoor murals, dozens of Ogden’s famous painted horses and street pianos that are out and about through the summer, a few more galleries, like the Eccles Community Art Center at 26th Street and Jefferson Ave. or Argo House…another active, creative workspace. Pop into Cuppa or back to WB’s for a quick bite when you start feel the urge.
