6 Ogden LGBTQ-Owned Businesses to Support in 2024

For many queer business owners like myself, Pride Month is more than a handful of pool parties and a parade of briefly rainbowized corporate logos. Pride is an opportunity to reflect on our community and see where we fit into it. When I look at Ogden, I’m proud to stand alongside a spectrum of so many incredible LGBTQ+ makers and entrepreneurs. Supporting LGBTQ-owned businesses throughout pride month can help keep them afloat all year long.

So, want to be an ally to Ogden’s queer community? One of the best ways (beyond showing up for their rights at the ballot box) is to open your wallet and support your queer neighbors in their business endeavors!

Not sure where to start? This list makes it easy to support LGBTQ-owned businesses in Ogden. Here are six LGBTQ-owned businesses that add color and vibrancy to our community. Support them this month, especially, but remember: We’re here all year long!

Let’s get into it…

BUT FIRST COFFEE

Start your day with a coffee and breakfast scramble at one of Ogden’s newest queer-owned eateries, The Mercantile on 25th. The folks behind Kaffe Mercantile, Roosters Brewing Co, and Beehive Cheese have long been committed to creating spaces and places for people to connect, now they’ve partnered up to create a new place together. Spearheaded by the community makers you know and love at Kaffe Mercantile, Lance Smith and Nick Morris, The Mercantile on 25th, offers a safe, inviting, and posh environment for everyone in Ogden.

This casual yet refined cafe serves breakfast items (try the breakfast scramble—thank me later), sandwiches, salads, charcuterie, wines, and beers. The all-day menu makes The Mercantile on 25th the perfect spot to spend a morning working with a cold brew and scone or an evening sipping, snacking, and catching up with your besties on their shady patio.

Location: The Mercantile is located in the historic Union Bus Depot building at 2501 Grant Avenue.

FOR THE RECORD

Head over to Lavendar Vinyl, a proudly queer-owned record store located right on Historic 25th Street to thumb through their sea of curated records. Established in 2016 by Kye Hallows and Blake Lundell, Lavender Vinyl is the backbone of Ogden’s music scene.

The independent record store is focused on bringing back the real community record store experience to Ogden. Lavender Vinyl hosts listening parties, album launches, and community events focused on music-minded folks and the queer community alike. They buy and sell records, so don’t go taking your collection to a thrift spot without popping by Lavender Vinyl first!

The secret to staying in the loop on all things Ogden? The Ogdenite! No one is more tuned into the goings on about Ogden than Deann Armes and her team. What pairs better with a book than a cold locally-brewed beer? It wouldn’t be a proper visit to Happy Magpie without stopping in to Salt&Hops, Ogden’s queer-owned beer store. This curated selection of craft beer and non-alcoholic refreshers currently features multiple Pride beers from Utah breweries, including Proper Brewing Co’s “Gei Effect,” Kiitos Brewing’s “Big Gay Ale,” and UTOG Brewing Co’s “Love Punch.”
